Since 2012, the RCYC Sailing Trust has been providing opportunities for young people in Cornwall to experience the waters around Falmouth with the aim of enhancing lives and opening up further avenues and skills.
The majority of children supported by our Trust are from local charities and organisations who support under-resourced families and communities.
Since we began, we've given several hundred such children from various local schools and organisations the opportunity to get out on the water on a variety of boats, with great thanks to and support from organisations and individuals including Pendennis Shipyard, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Rowes Bakery, the Richard Mille Cup, Falmouth Pleasure Cruises and Falmouth-raised professional sailor, Sam Goodchild.
Sir Ben Ainslie is patron of the RCYC Sailing Trust, having started day-sailing himself in Restronguet Creek, Falmouth at the age of 8.
Sir Ben won medals at five consecutive Olympics from 1996 onwards, including gold at four consecutive Games from 2000 to 2012. He has also held the position of Team Principal and Skipper of the British America's Cup team, INEOS Britannia, Challenger of Record, as well as Driver of SailGP team, Emirates GBR.
